What is it?
Direct method (direkte Methode in German) is one of the methods of learning a foreign language. This method pretends the way you've learned your native language.
Remember how you started to talk as a small kid? Have you learned grammar or past tenses? Have you learned the first words from books? No, you've learned the first words from your parents. The first questions also. And then you asked your mother "what's this?" all the time. And has it worked? Yes, everybody has learned in this way.
So why do people try to learn German from books? We don't know. Maybe, because some people like to do some things longer. Of course, it is possible to learn live language from books, but such way of learning languages has some drawbacks:
- the learning takes much more time,
- you will be afraid of speaking.
We teach German with direct method. From the first minutes of first lesson you will speak German. And you will answer the teacher's questions. Of course, you will not speak like Johann Wolfgang von Goethe on the first lessons. It will be simplest words and shortest questions instead. But you will speak. Instead of learn grammar by heart, you will train talking and train grammar in live exercises, not from books. Exactly as you learned your native languege.
